Textured Oil Masterclass

“I love your style so I was excited to see these classes online as I live miles away. Great guidance and I can’t believe the results. It’s now sitting in my lounge above my sofa and I’m going to do another one for my daughters bedroom” Lucy - Kent

Dive into a new world of textured art. This masterclass is great for beginners or artists looking to add another dimension to their work. These classes fuse old and new techniques to create surreal dreamlike touchable art.

Adding Texture

In part 1 you will learn how to prep your canvas ready for texture. Here we will be using certain modelling pastes to create our textured base.

I’ve recently developed ‘Arctic Ice’ a fast drying texture which I use and can be purchased at the gallery. However you can use texture available from any craft store or you can find it on amazon.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • Can i use this technique with watercolours or acrylics?

    Yes you can

  • I’ve got my own modelling paste can I used that or do I have to use what you have suggested?

Yes you can use any kind of modelling paste as long as you ensure its completely dry before adding paint as it might crack.

  • I don’t have a canvas, what else can I use?

You can use a piece of plywood or a board to work on.

  • Can I use turpentine to water down my oils?

Yes you can but I strongly suggest you use the safe substitutes created for artists as turpentine can be harmful when inhaled. I use a gas mask in a well ventilated room or outside when using turpentine. I also wear gloves.

  • What if I make a mistake?

If you are using oils just wipe it of with a cleansing wipe and start again. With acrylics or watercolour you can wait for it to dry and then paint over it.

  • Does it matter that I dont have the same colours as in the masterclass?

No, as long as you have white and black you can substitute with the colour you have.
